Marie Holmes wins lottery(www.TheSingleMomClub.com) – It’s the thing every single mom dreams of: Hitting the lottery.

That’s exactly what happened for single mom Marie Holmes of North Carolina.

“I thought I was going to have a heart attack when I saw the ticket and checked it,” she said. Holmes told the station that she was forced to quit her jobs at Wal-Mart and McDonald’s to care for her four children, one of whom has cerebral palsy. She said that she plans to give to her church, buy a new house and set up college funds for the kids.

Holmes, 26, has come forward with what she says is one of the three winning tickets in the $564 million Powerball jackpot.  The mom who lives in the town of Shallotte, told NBC affiliate WECT on February 12, 2015 that she was on her way to confer with lawyers and a financial adviser before turning in the ticket to state lottery officials.

“I scared my kids,” said the mother of four, recounting the moment she realized her good fortune. One of Holmes’ children suffers from cerebral palsy.

“I was telling them, we don’t got to struggle anymore, and I was yelling when I did it,” she added. “ . . . I thought I was going to have a heart attack.”

Before taxes, the winning ticket would be worth $188 million paid over 30 years or $127 million if the winner chose to take it in a single payment. Lottery officials say the other winning tickets were sold in Texas and Puerto Rico. Holmes is the first person to come forward and claim to have matched the winning numbers.

Holmes was looking for work when she won. She was forced to quit jobs at Wal-Mart and McDonald’s to take care of her kids full time, especially since one has special needs.

The single mom says that plans to set up college funds for her children after first donating to her church to thank God for granting her the winning ticket. Then she will buy a house and car.

“This is all for them,” she said of her children. “All the struggle I ever went through, it’s all for them. Money doesn’t change it, but money’s going to help me.”
