COMING SOON: The ULTIMATE TOY GUIDE for Single Moms

(www.TheSingleMomClub.com) – Like most parents, I cherish Christmas mornings, when children leap from their beds screaming and excitedly saying, “It’s Christmas!” Watching the kids behold the wonder of Santa Claus is priceless.

Every mom wants Christmas Morning to be perfect, which can sometimes seem impossible on most single moms’ bare budget. To combat the anxiety and guilt over the impossible, Single Mom Magazine recommends focusing on what Moms can control.

We’ll post all of the major stores’ toy guides, help you possibly score free or next to free toys and even pick a family or two to give a dream Christmas! Here’s a sneak peek with Kmart’s Big Toy Guide.

COOKING FOR KIDS: How to make Spiderman Candy Apples

IMG_5516Spiderman Candy Apples

Apples
3/4 cup water
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon red food coloring
3 wood skewers or popsicle sticks
3 granny smith apples

Decorating
3-4 large marshmallows
Black Icing Tube
Wilton #3 Tip

I’d suggest watching the video for additional visuals.

Clean and dry apples. Place skewers down the center of each apple. Set aside on a wax paper lined cookie sheet.

In a medium saucepan, stir together the water, sugar, light corn syrup, and red food coloring. Place Candy Thermometer in the saucepan. Place saucepan over medium heat and stir until mixture begins to boil. Once it starts to boil stop stirring and let temperature rise to 310 degrees – this will take about 5-10 minutes.

Remove from heat and let all the bubbles settle to ensure a smooth coating – takes about 30 – 60 seconds. Take an apple, tilt the pan, and slowly roll the apple in the candy mixture to coat the apple. Let excess drip off before setting on the wax paper lined cookie sheet to harden. Repeat dipping process with remaining apples.

Once apples have cooled and hardened (15-20 minutes), use kitchen shears to cut marshmallows in shape of eyes (tear drop shape) and place on each apple. Then, place a #3 Tip on a Wilton Black Icing Tube and draw the ‘web’ onto each spider.

Serve right away. If too hard to bite into the apple cut into wedges.

Makes 3-5 apples.
